SmartClassScripts ("we," "us," or "our") operates the ScoreScribe Google Sheets™ Add-on (the "Add-on"). We are educators and developers committed to protecting the privacy of teachers and students. This Privacy Policy explains what data we collect, how it is used, and how our architecture ensures compliance with federal student privacy laws.
ScoreScribe is designed with a "local processing" architecture. When you enter student data, test scores, or generate narrative reports, all processing happens locally within your secure Google Workspace environment. * No Student Data Leaves Your Account: We do not collect, transmit, store, or have access to any Student Personally Identifiable Information (PII), including student names, demographics, academic scores, or generated reports.
No Database of Records: Your student data remains entirely within your Google Sheet and Google Docs. It is never sent to Smart Class Scripts servers.
To provide our service and manage the freemium licensing model, we collect the following limited information from the user (the educator installing the Add-on):
Email Address: We securely collect the Google Account email address of the user running the Add-on.
License Status & Usage: We track the number of free reports generated (up to the limit of 2) and verify your purchased Gumroad license key.
This user data is securely stored in our Google Cloud Firestore database solely for the purpose of license verification and preventing system abuse. We never sell your email address or usage data to third parties.
Because ScoreScribe does not collect, transmit, or store any student data on our servers, the Add-on inherently supports your school or district's compliance with the Family Educational Rights and Privacy Act (FERPA) and the Children's Online Privacy Protection Act (COPPA).
All student education records processed by the Add-on remain under the direct control of the educational institution and are protected by the institution’s overarching Google Workspace for Education agreement.
Because Smart Class Scripts does not receive, host, or process Student PII on external servers, we do not act as an "Operator" or "Data Processor" of student records under standard state and federal privacy definitions (such as the NDPA). Therefore, standard DPAs governing the external storage of student data are generally not applicable to this Add-on. If your district requires a signed DPA for compliance documentation, we are happy to sign it with the explicit addendum that zero student data is transmitted to or held by SmartClassScripts.
Google Workspace: The Add-on operates within Google Sheets. Your use of Google Workspace is governed by Google’s Privacy Policy.
Gumroad: We use Gumroad to securely process license payments. We do not have access to your credit card information. Your transaction is governed by Gumroad's Privacy Policy.
If you or your district's IT department have any questions about our privacy practices, please contact us via our website at www.SmartClassScripts.com
