Welcome to StudyStacks! This tool is designed to turn your simple lists into perfectly aligned, professional cards without the headache of manual formatting. Follow these steps to set up your designer.
Because this is a custom script you are running in your own account, Google will ask for permission to let the script manage your document.
A menu item called StudyStacks will appear in the Doc. Click StudyStacks > Launch StudyStacks.
An "Authorization Required" box will pop up. Click Continue.
Select your Google Account.
The "Advanced" Step: You will see a screen saying "Google hasn't verified this app."
Click the small Advanced link at the bottom left.
Click Go to StudyStacks (unsafe). (Note: It is "unsafe" only because it hasn't been reviewed by Google’s corporate team, but it is perfectly safe!)
Scroll down and click Allow.
When you launch StudyStacks from the menu, you will be prompted to grant the script permission. Click OK.
This is a scary looking warning, but everything is ok. Click "Advanced" in the bottom left.
Click "Go to StudyStacks (unsafe)". It's ok, there is no malicious code, and no student data is ever at risk.
Click "Select All" to allow the script to access the document. It only has access to this one document, nothing else in your Drive. The "third-party web content" is just the modals that pop up with some extra styling made by another company.
Once the sidebar opens on the right, you can customize your cards:
Dimensions: Set the width and height in pixels (e.g., 300x200 for standard flashcards)
Typography: Choose a font and size that fits your vibe
Lexend: designed for easy reading
Arial: clean, neutral, sans-serif (no fancy decorations)
Comic Neue: Modern and clean
Classic Cursive: for a more stylized use case
Corners: Choose Square for a clean look or Extra Rounded for a "token" or "coupon" feel
To get even more rounded corners adjust the dimensions to be equal (i.e. 200 x 200)
Double-Sided Mode: Toggle this ON if your list follows a Question, Answer, Question, Answer format.
Format your double-sided cads first:
In your list, line 1 is the front, line 2 is the back, etc...
Click Build Stack: A preview window will open showing your cards exactly as they will appear on the paper
Click Print Cards
Printer Settings Tip: In the print dialog, set the margins to none or minimum to ensure the script’s symmetry stays perfect. If printing double-sided, select "flip on long edge."
List Formatting: For best results, use a simple bulleted list. The script will treat each bullet point as its own card.
The "Double-Sided" Layout: StudyStacks is smart; it automatically flips the order of the back page so that when you print double-sided, the correct back aligns with the correct front.
Paper Choice: For classroom jobs and flashcards, cardstock (65lb or 110lb) works significantly better than standard printer paper.
