No. ScoreScribe uses a strict, deterministic logic engine, not generative AI. Because IEPs and evaluation reports are legally binding documents, you cannot afford AI hallucinations or unpredictable/inaccurate phrasing. ScoreScribe matches your specific data to highly vetted, pre-written clinical templates so you get exact, predictable accuracy every single time.
Yes. There is a simple dropdown toggle in your setup sheet. ScoreScribe automatically adjusts the phrasing throughout the entire narrative to accurately reflect whether the student was compared to their same-age peers or same-grade peers.
Absolutely. Best practice dictates that you still need to use your professional judgement when using tools such as ScoreScribe. If there is anything you wish to change, you can download the final report as a Microsoft Word™ document (.doc), or simply copy and paste the text directly into Google Docs™ or your district's specific IEP management software to make your final updates.
By default, ScoreScribe generates a dense, clinical report suitable for official special education files. If you check the "Family-Friendly" box, the engine will instantly swap the complex clinical jargon for warm, accessible language that is perfect for parents and IEP meetings.
To keep your data perfectly organized, ScoreScribe uses a dedicated tab for each student's evaluation.
Open a blank Google Sheet.
Click Extensions > ScoreScribe > Setup New Student Sheet
ScoreScribe will instantly generate a pre-formatted, color-coded template labeled with today's date and time.
Pro Tip: You can generate as many student sheets as you need within the same workbook. Just click the button again to create a new tab for your next student.
The top section of your new sheet is where you establish the grammatical rules for your report.
The Basics: Fill in the student's name, age, grade, and school details. ScoreScribe automatically formats the age and grade for the narrative, so typing "9", "9 years", or "9 years, 3 months" all work perfectly.
Pronouns: Enter the subject pronoun (e.g., he, she, they) and possessive adjective (e.g., his, her, their). The logic engine will automatically adapt these along with object pronouns like him or them throughout the entire document.
Just below the student information, you will find a few powerful toggles that dictate how your final report will read:
Normed By (Age vs. Grade): Use the dropdown menu in row 21 to select whether you normed the WIAT-4 by Age or Grade. The narrative will automatically adjust its clinical phrasing to match.
Family-Friendly Toggle: By default, ScoreScribe generates a dense, clinical report suitable for official special education files. If you check the "Generate Family Friendly Report?" box, the engine will instantly swap the complex clinical jargon for warm, accessible language perfect for parents and IEP meetings.
Scroll down to the main data entry section.
Scores & Percentiles: Enter your standard scores and percentiles into the designated columns.
Descriptors: Click the empty cell in the descriptor column to open a dropdown menu. Select the appropriate clinical classification (e.g., Low Average, High Average).
Custom Notes (Optional): The "Notes" column allows you to add specific behavioral observations or clinical insights for each subtest. For example, if you type "relied heavily on finger counting" in the Math Fluency notes, ScoreScribe will seamlessly weave that exact phrase into the generated paragraph for that subtest.
You do not need to write the student's first name at the beginning of each notes section. ScoreScribe will prepend that to all sections where a name or pronoun is missing. You are otherwise encouraged to write complete sentences with as much detail as possible, as these will be used verbatim in your final report.
Once your data is entered, you are ready for the magic.
Click on ScoreScribe in the Extensions menu again.
Select Generate Report.
A preview window will pop up over your spreadsheet displaying your fully assembled and formatted evaluation.
At the top right of your generated report preview window, you have two options:
📝 Download Word Doc: This is the most popular option. It downloads your report directly to your computer as a .doc file. You can open it in Microsoft Word™ or upload it to Google Docs™ to make final edits or additions (e.g. adding official district letterheads, official WIAT 4 score charts, etc...).
🖨️ Print / Save PDF: This opens your computer's standard print dialog, allowing you to print a hard copy for a meeting or save it instantly as a PDF.
ScoreScribe operates on a freemium model. You get 2 free report generations to test the tool and see the formatting engine in action.
